Mid-Level Airplane Safety Engineer

Job Description Qualifications:
We are seeking innovative, enthusiastic, and highly collaborative teammates that have unlimited curiosity, and a passion for diving into design architecture details. This engineer will be interested in supporting C-17 airplane programs in services and modernization, and designing safety support to sustain airplane programs.

The team’s broad work statement will provide the opportunity to perform safety analysis at the component, system, and airplane level across a broad range of functional disciplines, including Avionics, Mechanical,
Environmental, Electrical, and Propulsion. We are looking for individuals that are adept at evaluating system architectures to determine the consequences of failures, malfunctions, and defects, and can collaborate with Design
Engineers to address in services issues or help create a robust design with various modernization projects.

Strong candidates will have an engineering background, with a solid understanding of statistical methods. Our objectives are achieved through independent research, teamwork, creative thinking, and attention to detail.

Position Responsibilities:
o Coordinate with Cognizant Engineering and technical activities in the area of System Safety on C-17 Airlift programs
o Ensure proper implementation of system safety requirements into the design, test, and operation of Company products
o Responsible for System Safety deliverable documents (Safety Assessment Report, Critical Safety Items Report)
o Support risk assessment analyses for field issues, software safety assessment, and/or fault tree analysis
o Provide regular status reports to Company management, program management, and the Safety Review Board
o Serves as a company resource expert in the definition of system safety program fundamentals including risk identification, analysis and control of hardware and software hazards
o Support design activities for Software/system improvement/obsolescence projects

Requirements

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
o 5+ years of experience with commercial or military airplane certification, safety requirements and procedures
o 4+ years of experience developing/applying aviation related system safety analysis methods such as System Safety Risk Assessments, Fault-tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA) and Safety Assessment Report (SAR)
o 4+ years of experience performing system safety analysis and/or studies
o Familiar with MIL-STD-882E, and Weibull Analysis

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
